When faced with complex litigation, 93 percent of in-house respondents
note that they outsource the issue to a law firm, according to the ACC Law
Department Management Report. This compares to only seven percent of
respondents who reported keeping the matter in-house.
Allocation of spend…
According to the ACC Law Department Management Report, 50 percent
of respondents anticipate an increase in the use of alternative fee
arrangements (AFAs) next year. Thirty percent of respondents, however,
anticipate a decrease in AFA spending, while 11 percent expect their use
to stay the same.
A seat at the table…
Sixty-five percent of respondents now report that their organizations
“almost always” seek the legal department’s input on business decisions,
according to the ACC Law Department Management Report. In addition,
65 percent of in-house respondents report that their legal departments
“almost always” contribute to the organization’s strategic planning efforts.
Keeping on budget…
Fifty-four percent of respondents to the ACC Law Department Management
Report stated that their department spend fell within five percent of its
target budget in the last 12 months. In contrast, 37 percent of in-house
respondents reported that their department did not adhere to budgetary
