ACC Houston Hosts 18th Annual
Ethics Seminar and Golf/Spa Event
On February 28, ACC Houston held
its 18th Annual Ethics Seminar and
Golf/Spa Event. This is the Houston
Chapter’s marquee event of the year
and it was another great success.
Held at the Houstonian Hotel & Spa,
the day began with over 200 local members enjoying two hours of
ethics CLE training over breakfast.
Author and Attorney Talmage Boston
gave an engaging, entertaining, and
scholarly CLE presentation using
excerpts from his most recent book,
Cross-Examining History.
The second CLE was presented by
Night Court, a volunteer group of
Houston attorneys that perform musicals to raise money for Houston-area charities.
After the CLE presentations,
members and sponsors either
stayed for a networking lunch at the
Houstonian prior to their spa appointments or headed to the nearby
Memorial Park Golf Course to enjoy
lunch and a day of golf.
Over 130 members
and sponsors enjoyed
spa appointments, yoga
classes, tennis lessons,
or took advantage of
the work spaces provided. Over 85
members and sponsors enjoyed a
round of golf. The day ended with
members and sponsors reconvening
for an evening reception to further
socialize, network, and receive raffle
prizes and golf awards.
This fun and informative event is
incredibly popular with our members and sponsors. It highlights the
great value of an ACC membership by providing a full day of fun
and pampering while also providing great CLE and networking
opportunities.
ACC New Jersey Invites Members
to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
of the Pro Bono Partnership
On April 6, ACC New Jersey invited members to volunteer at the
Pro Bono Clinic sponsored by
the chapter and Verizon Wireless.
Nearly 50 members, along with
two lawyers from ACC New Jersey
platinum sponsor Jackson Lewis,
came to show their support for the
cause — which showcased speakers
invited by the Pro Bono Partnership.
Celebrating their 20th year, the Pro
Bono Partnership provides corporate
and transactional assistance in New
Jersey, New York, and Connecticut
— focusing on nonprofits in under-
served communities.
Following a lecture on the law of
nonprofits, attendees were allowed
to participate in smaller substantive
sessions, where nonprofit business
owners could discuss contracts,
corporate governance, employment,
intellectual property, internet, website, privacy, and real estate issues.
Some of the nonprofits included in
this year’s event were Child & Family
Resources, Inc., Freespace Dance,
Inc., Greater New York Conservancy,
Inc., Hyacinth Foundation/Hyacinth
AIDS Foundation, KinderSmile
Foundation, Inc., and Statewide
Parent Advocacy Network, Inc.
Through this experience, ACC New
Jersey members were able to assist
these nonprofit owners by answering
topical legal questions related to the
sections noted above.
Breakfast and lunch were provided
for both the attendees and for the
nonprofit representatives to encourage networking. Most members
offered their contact information
to provide assistance to those with
follow-up questions.
The Pro Bono Partnership pro-
vides in-house lawyers with a way to
get more involved with the pro bono
Attendees gather for a substantive
presentation at the ACC Houston
Annual Ethics Seminar Golf/Spa Event.
