ACC Fondly Remembers Founder
DONALD P. WALSH
April 2, 1930 – May 18, 2017
On May 18, 2017, Donald P. Walsh passed away at the
age of 87. One of nine leading general counsel who
founded ACC in 1982, Don Walsh had a distinguished
legal career that included several in-house positions
within Shell Oil Company (1957-1980) and as vice
president and general counsel of Sunoco (1980-1992).
He was active in countless professional and community
organizations, but his “ACC family” will best remember
him as a founding member, former member of the
ACC Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and
Board Chair (1988). We are especially grateful for the
foundation that Don Walsh helped to build at ACC, and
for his contribution to the evolution of the role of the
general counsel. ;e GC of today is viewed as more than
a legal advisor and gatekeeper, but also as a strategic
partner to the business, thanks in part to his vision.
We thank Mr. Walsh for his contributions to the
association and to the in-house profession as a whole.
He will be greatly missed but his legacy will continue.
